Description
The man convicted in the deadly shooting of his ex-girlfriend outside a west Indianapolis day care on Sept. 16, 2022, has just been sentenced to 66 years.
A few weeks before the sentencing, a jury found Orlando Mitchell guilty of murder and invasion of privacy, violating a protective order.
Krystal Walton had just dropped off her then-1-year-old son when she was shot and killed outside the Charity Child Care at 10th Street and Holmes Avenue. Mitchell is the child's father, and Walton had a protective order against Mitchell.
"Today, we are grateful to the jury for returning this verdict, and although Krystal is no longer here, her family and children will carry on in her memory with the same resilience and grace as Krystal, as such a loving mother would have wanted them to," Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement following the guilty verdict.
