Description
13 Investigates has learned Muncie firefighters and EMTs will be required to retake a CPR training class following more controversy involving the department’s training and education procedures.
Allegations of improper CPR training surfaced at the end of February, in an email obtained by 13News.
The email from three high-ranking members of the Muncie Fire Department claims recent CPR training given to dozens of Muncie EMTs and firefighters "…was not within the approved guidelines of the AHA [American Heart Association]. In fact, the recertification process was so egregious that we are compelled to report this to the State of Indiana."
The email was sent to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and both IDHS and the American Heart Association confirmed for 13News that they began investigating the claims immediately. The concern was also shared with Muncie Fire Chief Dan Burford, prompting the department to temporarily suspend training courses at MFD.
