Description
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced it had accounted for U.S. Army Pvt. Charles W. Smalley, 19, of Waterloo, Indiana, killed during World War II.
In the Summer of 1944, Smalley was part of Operation DRAGOON, a planned invasion in the south of France.
A witness said Smalley was killed by machine gun fire while trying to repel German forces from a mountain between Marsanne and the village of La Coucourde.
