An Indianapolis mother and her boyfriend are facing charges for their alleged roles in the death of a 2-year-old girl on the city's northeast side. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office filed the following formal charges against 33-year-old Chantell Gardner: — Murder — Neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury Brian Thomas, 39, who the Marion County Prosecutor's Office identified as Chantell's boyfriend, is also facing a charge of assisting a criminal. There is a warrant out for his arrest. "Our laws are designed to protect children because they cannot speak up or care for themselves, and our office is committed to upholding those laws by seeking justice for helpless victims," Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a news release.
