Description
A man is dead after he was shot by a police officer on Interstate 69 in Madison County Wednesday afternoon.
Officers from Pendleton and the Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to Interstate 69, near State Road 38, around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 29 after receiving calls about a man walking along the interstate.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Scott Keegan said after the officers approached the man in an effort to ensure his safety, the man pulled a knife from his jacket pocket. The officers gave the man commands to drop the knife, which he reportedly ignored and moved aggressively toward the officers. During the encounter, a Madison County sheriff's deputy deployed a Taser, which was not effective, according to state police. A Pendleton police officer then fired one shot, striking the suspect.
