There's a push to support public education and push back against a measure making its way through the Indiana Statehouse.
Indiana lawmakers have been considering a bill that could lead to a state takeover of Indianapolis Public Schools and several other districts in the state. Essentially, if 50% or more of a districts' students are enrolled in charter schools, all the public schools would be converted to charters.
The bill's author said it's to ensure school corporations are giving kids the best education possible. But Jim Scheurich, a professor at IU Indianapolis, said this isn't the way to do that.
