A bill that would see local law enforcement work with federal Immigration and Custom Enforcement authorities (ICE) to figure out if someone they’ve arrested for a crime is also undocumented came with a lot of debate Thursday at the Indiana Statehouse as lawmakers considered it in a committee hearing. President Donald Trump signed an executive order ordering state and local law enforcement to help enforce federal immigration laws. Supporters of House Bill 1393 say it gives guidance to local police on how to go about that enforcement. Those against the bill say it racially profiles immigrant communities.
