Description
Big money is being offered to catch a fugitive and former county councilman accused of child sex crimes.
And it turns out that $25,000 reward is being ponied up by a private citizen — not police or the U.S. Marshals.
Steven Sumner is at the top of Madison County's most wanted list, and law enforcement says cash may finally lead to his capture.
"That motivates people," Madison County Sheriff John Beeman said. "They'll start talking. Everyone's got a Judas out there."
The $25,000 reward is for information leading to the location of the 56-year-old Sumner, who faces multiple felonies for alleged child sex crimes.
He's a former Madison County councilman who was elected to the council in 2018 and resigned from the council in 2021. He also served as a pastor with the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Anderson.
