Description
The Audience Choice winner for Narrative Special Presentation at the 33rd Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis went to "September 5."
Months later, audiences across the country are now getting the opportunity to see the historical thriller that was also nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
Based on a true story, "September 5" follows the ABC Sports broadcasting team during the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, as the journalists must shift from sports reporting to live coverage of the Israeli athletes taken hostage.
"Geoff Mason, the character I play in the film, is a real person who's actually a big reason this story is told the way it's told," said John Magaro ("Past Lives," "The Big Short"). "It's his interviews with Tim (Fehlbaum) and Moritz Binder – our other writer – that really inspired this perspective, this analysis of the media's role on that day."
Directed by Tim Fehlbaum, "September 5" opens in theaters nationwide Friday, Jan. 17.
