One of the bright spots in all this snowy winter weather in central Indiana is the return of Veal's Ice Tree on the southeast side of Indianapolis. The Veal family has created the massive icy monument every year — weather permitting — using water from a nearby pond, then decorating the ice with vibrant colors. The tradition has been carried on by the family since 1961, when Vierl G. Veal decided to make an ice hill for his family and an ice tree was formed.
