Description
Marion residents are being warned by police about an ongoing police impersonation phone scam.
There is a scam where people are receiving calls from someone who is pretending to be a police officer, according to the Marion Police.
The caller claims that a loved one has been arrested and demands money for their release, police said. The scammers are then requesting the money through apps like Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, etc.
Marion Police said officers will never ask for any payment over the phone or through money transfer apps. Police said the scammers are using AI to mimic the voices of your loved ones or other people.
