Description
A 43-year-old man is facing charges after fleeing a traffic stop and leading police on a car chase, with a stolen car, in Marion Friday evening.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office said deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle near West 22nd and South Washington streets around 4:45 p.m. Dec. 6.
Police said the vehicle was stopped, but the driver didn't listen to commands from deputies to show his hands and step out of the vehicle. The driver instead allegedly drove away from police, ensuing a car chase.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office said the car chase lasted 12 minutes, from central Marion to south Marion, east on 38th Street to Home Corner, then into Home Avenue before turning north on Pennsylvania Avenue to State Road 18 East and ending on 3500 East Montpelier Pike when the vehicle went off the road.
Police said the suspect drive 1/4 mile across a farm field before crashing into a wooded area and getting the vehicle stuck.
The suspect was wanted out of Ohio and was considered "armed and dangerous," the Grant County Sheriff's Office said.
