Meta says it has removed 2 million accounts this year.
The social media giant says the accounts belonged to overseas scammers posing as fake personas, such as friendly or attractive individuals, or trusted public figures.
Then, they'd target victims through texts, social media, email or dating apps, eventually manipulating the victim into sending money – often cryptocurrency – to invest in schemes.
