Description
Indiana State Police is investigating after a crash on a downtown highway early Tuesday sent two people to a hospital.
An ISP spokesperson told 13News dispatchers received reports of a car going north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 just north of downtown Indianapolis around 1 a.m. Oct. 29. Just moments later, a crash was reported in the southbound lanes of I-65 around 21st Street.
One of the vehicles involved in the collision was a semi-tractor trailer, according to the spokesperson.
The alleged wrong-way driver and the driver of the semi were transported by ambulance to an Indianapolis hospital to be checked for injury.
Officers are investigating whether impairment may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The crash resulted in the closure of all southbound lanes of I-65 for almost two hours while the wreckage was cleared from the road. One of the lanes reopened around 2:45 a.m., and all lanes reopened around 3:15 a.m.
