Those driving to their homes on Leland Avenue Monday afternoon were greeted by the Marion County coroner and police. Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30, IMPD officers responded to the 3400 block of North Leland Avenue, near East 34th Street and Emerson Avenue, for a death investigation. Officers found a man "in a decomposed state," a department spokesperson said in a statement. The man was later found to have an apparent gunshot wound(s), and homicide investigators responded accordingly. Investigators could be seen in the backyard of the home taking pictures and collecting evidence near the decomposing body. A month earlier, neighbors found a similar scene at the same home. That time, IMPD says they found a man shot to death in his truck.
