Police in Fortville are on the scene of a crash that left a pedestrian dead Monday night. Officers at the scene told 13News the male victim was crossing the street in the 600 block of North Madison Street in a motorized wheelchair when he was struck by a southbound vehicle around 8:45 p.m. Sept. 30. Investigators believe the man was in the middle of the intersection of North Madison and Illinois streets when he was struck. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the driver of the vehicle that struck the man stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. She was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
