Description
An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 60 years for the killing of his cousin on the city's northeast side in December 2022.
In August 2024, Emmanuel Newman was convicted of murder in the shooting death of Joshua Hopson after a three-day jury trial.
Around 3 a.m. Dec. 28, 2022, IMPD officers responded to a report of a person shot at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Alsuda Court, near Binford Boulevard and East 46th Street.
Officers arrived and found Hopson with multiple gunshot wounds lying in front of the building. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, Hopson's girlfriend said Hopson was arguing with Newman before the shooting. She said Newman left but returned a short time later.
