Description
Indiana State Police is investigating a pursuit that ended with officers taking two alleged wanted fugitives into custody Wednesday evening.
According to an ISP spokesperson, it started around 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 when a Marion County sheriff's deputy tried to stop a U-Haul truck on Interstate 465 on the west side of Indianapolis. A pursuit ensued, and officers chased the truck down Kentucky Avenue and into Camby in Hendricks County.
The chase eventually returned to Marion County as the truck went east on Interstate 70. When the pursuit approached Holt Road, the truck went down an embankment and stopped, where two occupants of the truck fled on foot, according to the spokesperson. One of those men, a 31-year-old from Indianapolis, was taken into custody by officers a short time later.
Investigators believe the other man, a 38-year-old from Indianapolis, then stole a box truck from a business in the area, driving it through a closed gate near where officers had just caught the first suspect. ISP said a Plainfield Police Department officer fired his gun in the direction of the suspect in the truck.
The truck's driver continued to flee from officers, the spokesperson said, until he crashed in the area of Kentucky Avenue and Harding Street.
After the crash, the suspect ran away and was captured by a police K-9 unit. After he was apprehended, it was discovered he had an apparent gunshot wound to a lower extremity. The spokesperson said the man was treated at a hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
