Description
The U.S. men's gymnastics team made history by winning bronze in the team final. It was their first team medal since 2008 and only the third in the last 20 Summer Games.
In a thrilling men's street skateboarding final, Americans Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston secured silver and bronze.
The U.S. women's basketball team kicked off their title defense with a dominating victory over Japan.
In the pool, Americans continued to add to the medal count.
Ryan Murphy won bronze in the men's 100-meter backstroke, while Katie Grimes and Emma Weyant earned silver and bronze in the women's 400-meter individual medley.
But not all were victorious.
Lilly King narrowly missed out on bronze in the women's 100-meter breaststroke.
And the U.S. women's water polo team suffered a rare loss, falling to Spain in a rematch of the final at the Tokyo Games.
