Description
The U.S. Department of Justice has terminated 20 employees who were involved in the investigation of President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents back in 2023, according to a report from CBS News citing a source familiar with the matter.
The dismissed personnel include paralegals assigned to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office, along with finance and support staff, and two additional prosecutors, the source said.
The firings were reportedly carried out by Attorney General Pam Bondi’s “Weaponization Working Group,” which is currently reviewing several DOJ investigations concerning Trump.
This move follows the termination of three prosecutors from the DOJ’s January 6 investigation in June. The CBS News source also indicated that as many as 15 more department employees could face termination in the near future.
The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment.
