Description
Big changes are coming July 1 to the busy interstate around Indianapolis.
The speed limit will be changing starting Tuesday on a significant part of the Interstate 465 loop, going from 55 miles per hour to 65 miles per hour.
INDOT says you'll start seeing new speed limit signs popping along 465 over the next week and that there will be minimal impact to traffic, reminding drivers to watch for crews installing signs.
There are a few places on I-465 where the speed limit will stay 55 miles per hour, like between 86th and 96th streets on the northwest side, because of how the road is designed.
The variable speed limits between I-70 and I-65 on the southeast side will remain in place.
Also, a $2 increase to the cigarette tax will take effect on Tuesday.
