Description
When it comes to killing bacteria at home, many of us reach for the strongest cleaner we can find.
But do you really need heavy-duty chemicals to do the job?
To find out, 13News bought some commercial cleaners and bleach, as well as ingredients to make our own more natural options:
- The first homemade solution: equal parts vinegar and distilled water, with drops of essential oils for scent.
- The second homemade solution: a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol, half a teaspoon of castile soap and one and a half cups of distilled water.
We took all of the solutions to a lab at Indiana University Indianapolis to test how well they kill bacteria similar to E. coli and salmonella.
