One person is dead after exchanging gunfire with police Monday night. At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Denver Police and Denver Public School safety officers responded to the 900 block of South Hazel Court after receiving a call about two adults in front of the nearby school. Officers found the adults, a man and a woman, and started to do warrant checks on them, police said. During the check, the man asked if he could leave and officers told him he could not, according to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas. The man then ran away from officers and pulled out a weapon, Thomas said.
