Description
Double waterspouts were spotted in Tampa Bay area waters over the weekend.
In a video sent to 10 Tampa Bay from Dhruvil Shah, two waterspouts are seen spinning Sunday afternoon off the coast of Anna Maria Island.
The first waterspout was seen stemming from a large, dark cloud, while the other began to form. Shah could even see the spout sucking the water up while it moved. Later in the video, the two are seen next to each other.
Other viewers sent in videos of the waterspouts, spotting them near the Skyway Bridge and Egmont Key.
Weather officials warn people that some waterspouts can be just as dangerous as tornadoes, and it is important not to move closer to one.
"Never try to navigate through a waterspout. Although waterspouts are usually weaker than tornadoes, they can still produce significant damage to you and your boat," the National Weather Service website states.
Officials say to head at a 90-degree angle from the apparent motion of the waterspout to avoid it.
