Description
Ronny Walker is accused of killing 14-year-old Nilexia Alexander and leaving her body in a vacant lot in 2022. Thursday was the second day of his capital murder trial.
On Thursday, the only person who was with the two of them that night testified — and so did Nilexia's mother.
"He got mad and went screaming and yelling, talking about, 'Get out of his car, get out my car,'" Robert Creed Jr. said as he detailed what he says happened the night of May 6, 2022.
"I heard a gunshot... I looked in the back seat. I seen her holding her chest," he continued.
He said Walker once again yelled at the 14-year-old to get out of the car. She did so as she was bleeding, according to Creed. Walker then got out of the car, and Creed said he heard two more gunshots.
Creed testified that earlier in the night, Walker had been driving around looking for Nilexia.
When she got in the backseat of the car, he claims Walker asked if she was having sex with other people before shooting her.
While discussing what evidence could be used in the case, prosecutors questioned whether the two had been in a relationship.
'He's going to kill me too'
Creed said that after the shooting, Walker got back in the car and drove off.
"He's telling me 'Don't say nothing, don't tell nobody, don't tell nobody' or he's going to kill me too," Creed said in court.
Right now, Creed is charged with accessory after the fact of first-degree murder.
He pleaded guilty, admitting to initially lying to investigators about the case. Creed is awaiting sentencing.
The defense argued that Creed is the real killer, saying he's trying to put the blame on Walker to get a lesser punishment.
"One of the benefits that you've received is after agreeing to testify, the prosecution agreed to erase that bond for you," the defense said on Thursday.
They picked apart Creed's testimony, during which he claimed he had never met Nilexia before that night.
But the defense showed phone records revealing multiple conversations between the two.
Creed claimed someone else used his phone for those interactions.
While questioning Creed, the defense asked: "Is it your testimony that somehow this coincidental friend in common that you have with Nilexia Alexander gets a hold of your phone at almost 3 o'clock in the morning and they're communicating? Is that your explanation?"
"Yes, ma'am," Creed replied.
Nilexia's mother, Ashley Alexander, also took the stand Thursday. She detailed Nilexia's behavioral issues after learning that she was adopted.
"She started running away... She was looking for her parents," Alexander said.
Alexander adopted Nilexia and her sister when they were babies, after their biological parents lost custody.
Alexander later learned Nilexia had a secret phone, but did not know who she was contacting.
