Description
Polk County deputies shot and killed a man who split a deputy's head open with a wooden plank in Frostproof Friday night, Sheriff Grady Judd said on Facebook Saturday.
Judd said at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were sent to West Frostproof Baptist Church Road to serve an arrest warrant on a man identified as 43-year-old Primitivo Garcia "for failure to pay child support with a $5,000 purge."
Judd said deputies found Garcia in a "really junky area," about 75 yards from the road.
"I think people were living there, I'm not sure," Judd said.
While deputies took Garcia into custody, Judd said "he fought with them," adding that deputies were wrestling with him to secure him in handcuffs.
Judd said "out of nowhere," another man identified as Garcia's brother, 53-year-old Francisco Garcia-Vega, showed up with a "2x4" wooden plank and hit a deputy identified by Judd as "Deputy Martin" in the head.
