Description
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman following a road rage incident that escalated into a shooting Thursday afternoon.
Deputies responded to the intersection of South Hilltop Road and West Brandon Boulevard at 2:19 p.m. on Thursday, after receiving reports of gunfire exchanged between two vehicles.
When deputies arrived, they found 21-year-old Aiden Richards suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower body. She was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
According to investigators, the incident began when both drivers stopped at a red light and became involved in a verbal altercation. During the confrontation, Richards allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots at the other vehicle. The other driver then returned fire, striking Richards.
Richards has been charged with multiple felonies, including:
Two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm
Two counts of Shooting Into or Within a Vehicle
“This kind of behavior is dangerous, irresponsible, and could have easily ended in tragedy,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Using a firearm because you’re angry behind the wheel is beyond unacceptable. We will not allow this kind of chaos on our roadways, and those who choose violence will face serious consequences.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
