Police are investigating a bomb threat Wednesday afternoon in downtown Tampa. Officers said they responded just before 2:30 p.m. to the First Horizon Bank located off of N. Franklin Street after an anonymous caller made threats of an explosive device located outside the building. TPD said officers immediately arrived to search the area. As of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, authorities say they are still working to conduct interviews, and there is no threat to public safety. “Making threats of explosives or any other dangerous device is a serious criminal offense,” Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. “These types of calls are not only illegal, but also create disruption, waste valuable public resources, and cause unnecessary concern for our community. Those found responsible for making such threats will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” An investigation is ongoing.
