Description
A U.S. Army Soldier killed in a logistics operation in Berlin, Germany will return home to Largo on Monday.
Specialist Jaylin Perez was deployed with the 200th Military Police Command in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
According to a statement from U.S. Army Europe and Africa, Perez was inspecting military equipment on a railway near Berlin when he suffered severe electrical burns. He was taken to the Accident Burn Hospital in Berlin where he later died on July 8.
U.S. and German authorities are investigating the incident.
His father, Hiram Perez, shared some of the family's favorite photos and memories.
Perez grew up in a military family. He went to Clearwater High School and was part of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program. Perez graduated from Florida Career College and joined the U.S. Army in 2023.
Specialist Perez was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his dedication to duty and service.
He leaves behind his daughter, wife, parents, grandparents and siblings.
