Description
The National Hurricane Center and the 10 Tampa Bay weather team are keeping an eye on a system in the Gulf that continues to impact parts of Florida, including the Tampa Bay area.
Known as Invest 93-L, the disturbance is now in the Florida Panhandle and has a chance to develop into a tropical depression as it continues to move through the Gulf over the next couple of days.
Florida tropical impacts
Regardless of development, the system is set to bring more heavy rain and a threat of flash flooding to the Tampa Bay area. On Monday, severe storms associated with this system toppled trees, flooded roads and brought lightning that caused an evacuation at Tampa International Airport.
On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay area should expect another couple of rounds of intense rain by lunchtime and for the drive home. Flooding, lightning and gusty winds will be the main impacts.
Some areas could easily see another 1-3 inches of rain over an already saturated ground. That’s why the 10 Tampa Bay weather team has issued a Weather Impact Alert.
Will Dexter form?
The National Hurricane Center says the system is expected to continue moving west and could "emerge or redevelop" in the northeastern or north-central portion of the Gulf on Wednesday night. It's forecast to reach the coast of Louisiana by Thursday.
If the system remains far enough offshore, forecasters say environmental conditions look favorable for additional development.
"A tropical depression could still form over the next couple of days before the system moves fully inland by the end of the week," the National Hurricane Center wrote.
The system has a 40% chance of formation over the next 48 hours and a 40% chance of development over the sext seven days.
If it does strengthen into a named storm, it will be named Dexter. https://www.wtsp.com/article/weather/tropics/florida-tropical-update-dexter-storm-invest-93-hurricane-center/67-4275fab5-f15c-4edd-bded-0528b75f4af8
