The National Hurricane Center and the 10 Tampa Bay weather team are keeping an eye on a system moving over Florida on Tuesday that's expected to impact the Tampa Bay area, regardless of whether it develops into a tropical storm or depression. Known as Invest 93-L, the disturbance is located just offshore of the east coast of Florida. Although it's gradually becoming better defined, shower and thunderstorm activity remains disorganized. Florida tropical impacts Still, the system is set to bring more heavy rain and a threat of flash flooding to the Tampa Bay area. On Monday, severe storms associated with this system toppled trees, flooded roads and brought lightning that caused an evacuation at Tampa International Airport. On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay area should expect another round of intense late-day and evening storms as the system moves westward across Florida. We could see 3 to 6 inches of rain in some spots, with a risk for localized flash flooding Tuesday through Wednesday. After crossing over Florida, the system is expected to reach the northeastern Gulf by Wednesday. From there, environmental conditions look favorable for additional development. "A tropical depression could form while the system moves across the northeastern and north-central Gulf," the National Hurricane Center wrote. The system has a 40% chance of formation over the next 48 hours and a 40% chance of development over the sext seven days. If it does strengthen into a named storm, it will be named Dexter.
