IMPD is investigating after an officer was shot Tuesday afternoon on the near west side of Indianapolis. Police officers were responding to a report of a stolen car near 16th and Harding streets on July 29. According to IMPD Ofc. Drew Brown, the stolen car pulled into an apartment complex around 2:15 p.m. near West 16th Street and Lafayette Road. An IMPD spokesperson said as the four-year veteran officer stopped the vehicle, one of four people inside fled the scene. As the officer took the driver into custody in handcuffs on the ground, police say one of the two people still inside the vehicle began firing at the officer, striking him three times.
