Judge Steven Hippler ordered Bryan Kohberger to serve four life sentences without parole for first-degree murder in the deaths of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. The defendant was also given a 10-year sentence for burglary and assessed $270,000 in fines and civil penalties. Kohberger, 30, pleaded guilty just weeks before his trial was to start in a deal to avoid the death penalty. Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed on the sentence.
