A homeless encampment in Fountain Square is testing the patience of neighbors, with one homeowner trying to sell her house because of constant issues. The growing encampment on Leonard Street is just feet away from homeowners who say it began with just a few tents. Residents thought they would eventually go away, but as more tents spawned, so did more problems. "Next time I see you out here, I'm going to beat you up." Those are the fighting words that Heather Warnecke, a nine-year resident of Fountain Square, confronted as a woman threatened to injure her for seemingly no reason. Warnecke said trouble continued to spill into the streets such as violence, drug use, harassment, public urination, public indecency and even human waste dumped in her garbage bin.
