As Colorado grapples with a heat wave pushing temperatures into the upper 90s, businesses like Aspen Moon Farm in Boulder County are adapting operations to protect workers and crops during the critical harvest season.
Located near Longmont, Aspen Moon Farm is in full swing with summer harvests, but owners say worker safety has become a top priority as heat and wildfire haze create some difficult conditions in the fields.
“It’s been hot for sure, but we do all the things we have to do — extra breaks, longer breaks, popsicles,” said farm owner Jason Griffith. “You have to take care of yourself and deal with heat and stay hydrated in order to be able to take care of the vegetables in the same way.”
Griffith emphasized that while crops like eggplants thrive in the heat, it's important to protect the workers.
