Description
Colorado Parks and Wildlife on Thursday released video of wolf pups belonging to one of the state's new packs.
CPW said this week that wolves reintroduced to the state are breeding and forming new packs. Officials announced three new wolf packs in Routt, Rio Blanco and Jackson counties.
The trail camera video shows pups from the newly named King Mountain Pack, in Routt County.
Two other newly established packs have been spotted in Rio Blanco and Jackson counties. These join the already known Copper Creek Pack in Pitkin County — the first confirmed pack since reintroduction.
The Copper Creek Pack has drawn attention — and controversy — after repeated livestock attacks. Wildlife officers euthanized one member of the pack earlier this year in an attempt to prevent further depredation.
Colorado voters narrowly approved the reintroduction of gray wolves in 2020. The first animals were released on the Western Slope in December 2023.
