For years, one of the most active litigators in Colorado was also its most secretive. Suing patients, it would seem, was not something the largest provider of health care in the state wanted to advertise. 9NEWS KUSA-TV led a two-year investigation that ultimately uncovered the truth. Not only was UCHealth suing more patients than anyone else, but it was doing so under the auspices of a loophole in state law. That loophole – closed by the legislature because of the investigation – permitted the hospital giant to sue thousands yearly in a way that was virtually untraceable.
