Description
Kim Sheffield, who has been staying at the Downtown Suites motel in East Dallas, talked with WFAA after police said a man was decapitated on the property on September 10, 2025. She describes the victim as kind, the suspect as quiet, and her disbelief that such a brutal killing could happen where she lives.
Police identified the victim as 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah and the suspect as 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez. Cobos-Martinez has been charged with capital murder. The attack happened at the Downtown Suites in the 3400 block of Samuell Boulevard, near Interstate 30 and the Tenison golf course. Dozens of police vehicles surrounded the motel, which was taped off as a crime scene.
According to an arrest affidavit, Nagamallaiah told Cobos-Martinez not to use a broken washing machine. Witnesses told police the suspect became upset, left the room, then returned with a machete. Surveillance video shows him attacking the victim, who tried to escape but was chased down. The affidavit says Cobos-Martinez also went through the victim’s pockets during the assault and fought off the victim’s wife and son as they tried to intervene.
Another witness told WFAA she saw the suspect continue stabbing until Nagamallaiah was decapitated. Police later confirmed officers patrolling nearby responded quickly and arrested Cobos-Martinez.
