Description
Government Shutdown 2025 Update | Washington, D.C. (Oct 14): President Donald Trump said he is “very unhappy with Spain,” accusing Madrid of benefiting from NATO protection without matching other members’ military spending. He called Spain’s stance “disrespectful to NATO” and said he may impose trade tariffs as punishment.
Spain is currently the only NATO ally that has not committed to raising defense spending to the target set by Trump — 5 percent of GDP, well above NATO’s official 2 percent benchmark.
