Description
Florida’s political map could be redrawn again — a move that could put several Democratic-held congressional seats at risk and reshape the state’s political landscape heading into the 2026 midterms.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has argued that Florida was shortchanged during the 2020 census and says the state’s rapid population growth makes redistricting inevitable.
“If you look at when this census was completed, the counting, I think, stopped in April 2020,” DeSantis said. “Florida has been the place that people have escaped to. We’ve had really significant growth and immigration. And our congressional map should reflect that.”
The governor has also suggested the U.S. Supreme Court could soon rule that race-based districts are unconstitutional — a decision that would require Florida to draw new lines.
