Tropical Storm Erin
Tropical Storm Erin developed Monday morning and has maintained maximum sustained winds of nearly 45 mph.
As of the latest advisory, Erin is about 820 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands as it moves closer to the area through Monday. It is expected to strengthen into the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane season by late Thursday.
Erin will be near the Windward Islands by Friday, with forecast models showing Erin strengthening into a major hurricane, Category 3 or higher, over the weekend.
"The northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of Erin," the National Hurricane Center wrote.
Forecast models are still in fairly good agreement that Erin will make a turn to the north-northwest throughout the weekend, with a more northern trajectory into midweek next week.
Most models show Erin passing between Bermuda and the East Coast (closer to Bermuda) around midweek next week (Aug. 20).
