Aug. 28 on The Story: Despite a 2019 Washington state law barring the federal government from using state data for immigration enforcement, a recent KING 5 investigation proved that they were doing precisely that. This Tuesday, state officials admitted that their sharing of a state database containing driver and vehicle licensing information allowed ICE to use the data tracking down undocumented residents. The proof, KING 5 found, was laid out in federal court documents. But as late as Monday of this week, Washington officials claimed that their data was not being misused.
