Description
Aug. 27 on The Story: Earlier this week, a man was hospitalized after police say he was stabbed and hit with skateboards by a group of three young people across the street from the Multnomah County Central Library. The victim had just come from the library, and said he'd tried to intervene in a "disturbance" outside. It's the latest in a string of violent incidents in this area, which is increasingly notorious for homelessness and public drug use. County leaders have recently tightened security measures within the library for that reason. Regardless, the CEO of the Portland Metro Chamber put out a statement yesterday blaming county leadership for this latest crime, even if it happened off library property. County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson isn't having any of it.
