Description
Aug. 18 on The Story: Since Congress passed the bill in the 1980s, the federal government has distributed grants out to organizations across the country which help support crime victims. The Victims of Crime Act isn't funded by taxpayer dollars, but by criminal fines. Regardless, those funds are now being cut off by the Trump administration, targeting "sanctuary" jurisdictions. It was also in the 1980s that Oregon became the first state in the nation to adopt a sanctuary law, barring state and local officials from aiding federal immigration efforts. Now, with a number of vital organizations already shutting down, the state is looking to fight this latest move from the Trump administration to force compliance with its political program.
