Aug. 11 on The Story: Only eight states in the U.S. have glaciers, and half of all glaciers in the lower 48 can be found in the North Cascades of Washington state. But, as researchers who have been monitoring these glaciers for decades can tell you, those glaciers are rapidly disappearing — more rapidly now than they once were. Within the last decade, the pace has really begun to pick up. And for the researchers, there's the grim knowledge that it's only a matter of time before they're gone for good.
