Description
The Marion County coroner said all of her staff is safe after the discovery of a "suspected explosive device" on a body prompted a bomb squad callout Friday morning.
Marion County Coroner Alfie McGinty said a deceased person arrived at the coroner's office, near Prospect Street and South Keystone Avenue, "from an investigation in another county with what appeared to be a suspected explosive device on the body."
"Our protocols were immediately followed, and the bomb squad was called in as a precaution," McGinty said, adding that the device was "safely removed" and "there is no ongoing threat."
Johnson County Coroner Mike Pruitt confirmed the suspected explosive device was found on the body of aggravated assault suspect who led police on a chase that ended in a fiery crash on Interstate 65 between the Franklin and Whiteland exits Tuesday night, Oct. 1.
