Description
The city of Indianapolis on Thursday demolished the last remaining building at the Towne and Terrace apartment complex.
The complex was built in the 1960s near 42nd Street and Post Road. Former resident and Homeowners Association President Liz Durden remembers it fondly.
"This right here was one of the best places to be," she said. "I used to want to live here. I used to come by and say, I want to live over there. And then I finally got a chance to live here and then it just started deteriorating."
Durden moved in in 1989 and lived there until the city stepped in and started demolition in 2023. She blames the absent owners for the crime ridden place it became. In 2020, police responded to the complex 400 times.
