Avon Community School Corporation alerted parents after a gun was discovered at an elementary school Tuesday morning.
In an email sent to parents on Sept. 9, the district said a gun was found in a handbag at Hickory Elementary School.
A staff member discovered the bag in a "secure staff closet in their classroom."
