Description
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month — a time to educate folks about intimate partner abuse, uplift survivors, and spotlight advocates and organizations that support them
Intimate partner violence impacts more than 12 million people each year, according to the national domestic violence hotline.
They report that, in the United States, an average of 24 people per minute experience stalking, physical violence, or rape by their partner.
In Denver, reports show that, domestic violence offenses have followed an upward trend over the last 10 years. Data from the Denver Police Department show that, in 2015, there were 4,036 domestic violence offenses reported by the end of September. In 2020, that number rose to 4,366 for that same timeframe.
This year, as of September 30, there have been 5,721 reports of domestic violence offenses.
This week, we were joined by Natasha Adler, the program director at the Rose Andom Center, and Cassie Ratliff, the chief impact officer at Family Tree, to discuss the importance of spreading awareness about domestic violence.
