Description
There are no tropical concerns for the Gulf Coast over the next week. The action is all far to our east with a major hurricane and a newly formed tropical storm.
Tropical Storm Imelda formed on Sunday afternoon over the Bahamas. Models have come into much better agreement in turning the storm to the east and taking it out over the Atlantic as a hurricane. That turn would keep Imelda's center away from the Southeast US and limit major impacts there. Still, Imelda will likely send some rain, high surf and possibly other impacts along the Southeast US coast in the next couple of days. It should eventually head out over the Atlantic by midweek.
The farther-out but more powerful system is Humberto. It is back to a Category 4 hurricane on Sunday after reaching Category 5 status on Saturday. It is forecast to curve north and northeast early in the work week and stay over the Atlantic, passing near Bermuda on Tuesday as a slowly weakening system.
